Jackson Guitars originated in the late 1970s when a flamboyant resurgence in heavy music turned a small Southern California guitar repair shop into the birthplace of shred-approved excellence. This era marked the dawn of Jackson's reputation as the quintessential metal guitars, known for their highly original, high-performance instruments. With distinctive styles and formidable substance, Jackson guitars quickly became the brand of choice for discerning metal guitarists around the world.
The company's transformative journey began shortly after Wayne Charvel sold his guitar hot-rodding shop, Charvel's Guitar Repair, in November 1978. The new owners, a small team of skilled craftsmen, started crafting custom guitars that bore the Jackson name on their headstocks by the summer of 1979. These instruments were tailored to meet the extravagant needs of the new generation of guitar heroes that dominated the burgeoning MTV era and the Sunset Strip music scene.
Among the most legendary of these instruments is the Rhoads Concorde, designed in collaboration with Randy Rhoads in late 1980. This iconic guitar featured an angular, futuristic V-shape and was the first to display the Jackson name on the headstock. Over the years, Jackson has continued to innovate and expand its product line, which includes famous models like the Kelly, King V, and Soloist. Today, Jackson remains a leading name in metal music, embodying a legacy of more than three decades of musical excellence and innovation.
