View Full DescriptionThe SG Junior '60s from Gibson USA packs the best features of this "child of the 1960s" into a guitar that's still a powerhouse for a wide range of players today, while looking great in Heritage Cherry finish, in hand-sprayed, high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. Supreme playability, raw and unfettered tone, and a classic look mark the SG Junior '60s as a "must try" guitar for every player seeking the beauty of pure simplicity. It's also available in a left-handed version.
Like the original SG Junior of 1961, the SG Junior '60s from Gibson USA is made from choice solid mahogany. An archetypal tonewood used in countless classic Gibson electric guitars, mahogany has a sonic depth and richness that can't be beat, yet always remains clear and articulate. The guitar's neck also is made from solid mahogany cut to the superior quarter-sawn orientation, carved to the fast yet comfortable SlimTaper profile of the early '60s, and glued into the body with the time-tested mortise & tenon joint that promotes resonance and sustain.
It carries a sturdy fingerboard made from heat-treated baked maple, with 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 12-inch radius for easy, choke-free bending. A PLEK-cut Corian nut ensures precise intonation while enhancing sustain, which is further aided by Gibson's traditional 17-degree back-angled headstock, silkscreened with the gold Gibson logo, just like the originals.
The heart of a Junior always has been found in its hot, raw P-90 pickup, and the SG Junior '60s is no exception. This accurate reproduction of Gibson's favorite single-coil pickup is wound with 42-AWG wire and employs a pair of genuine Alnico V bar magnets for a sound as smooth as it is snarly, with characteristic P-90 edge and bite to cut through any mix. Hardware includes a wraparound tailpiece and vintage-style TonePros tuners to retain the retro look up at the headstock.
