The Dean Espana features a classical guitar body shape which offers a comfortable playing experience and provides the ideal instrument for a player who loves classical/flamenco vibes. These nylon strung instruments are of Spanish origin and are often associated with flamenco styles and have been faithful little guitars over the years. Although classical guitars have all most likely been our first guitar, there is so much more to the world of classical and flamenco styled play. The Dean Espana will perform greatly for both flamenco and classical styled strumming to more complex fingerpicking techniques. To provide players with more freedom throughout the fingerboard, the Espana features a venetian cutaway. The Venetian Cutaway is renowned for its soft, round lines, creating a visually stunning look that is recognisable on any body. This type of cutaway allows easier access to the upper frets for a comfortable play, and enables players to achieve more challenging fingerpicking styles.
The Dean Espana features mahogany back and sides that add a characterised warmth to its brightly toned spruce top. Used as back and side panels the mahogany delivers a meaty mid-range, producing punchy, woody tones with plenty of depth and complexity that will please most playing styles. The mahogany back and sides are accompanied by a stunning sitka spruce top that delivers a broad dynamic range and crisp articulation. Spruce is the most commonly used wood for guitar tops as it generates a versatile sound and accommodates numerous playing styles, from aggressive to fingerpicking. The wood itself is quite elastic in nature, which resonates well whilst remaining strong, and provides a focused, clear sound of deep lows, warm midi-range, and bright sparkling highs.
The Espana's neck is constructed from mahogany, offering great durability and resonance. The neck is crafted from mahogany because the wood responds greatly to picking, strumming, and various finger techniques with equal ease, making ideal for the classical/flamenco genres. The neck is topped with a blackwood fingerboard that has been recognised by classical guitar builders as the holy grail of tonewoods, offering a strong response and smooth sustain that a classical player will love.
The Dean Espana is ready for stage performance due to its on-board DMT SL3 preamp. The DMT SL3 features slider switches for bass, middle, and treble, with a button for phase and a rotary control for volume. This simple and sophisticated setup also offers the convenience of a built-in tuner, making tuning up/down quick and easy in every environment.
