A perfect symbiotic relationship between samples and synthesis, Punch-BD offers more than reductive cut and paste samples that have been used endlessly throughout electronic music production. Instead, you are provided with a canvas on which to create your perfect kick drum to blend with your mix and composition with ease. Built around an engine that's comprised of six pads, each pad can either function as a sample host or synth engine. Using any of the 31 samples onboard or using one of four synth engines, you can stack or separate your bass drums to create unique sounds that stamp out your sonic signature. For even more creative expression, Punch-BD allows you to load in your own samples as well as stack two together within one pad.
This combination of synthesis and samples is an established method of creating unique sounds that stray away from generic samples, helping you to find bass drums that complement your music, laying the foundation of your song.
Far beyond what most people would think is necessary to get a great bass drum sound, you may wonder why there is such deep level of control. Rob Papen's line of plug-ins aims to inspire, helping you to get more creative with your sound design and Punch-BD is no exception. Helping to re-define how you approach drum tone creation, you will get out as much as you put in. Simple and classic sounds are all readily available but when you want to push your boundaries, Punch-BD will help get you there.
Not a new technique but one that is well established within electronic music production, Punch-BD gives you six layers of independent drum synth of samples to play with. The inclusion of different performance modes alter how your bass drums will be triggered. When combined as a Stack, each note will be summed to one note, regardless of the incoming MIDI trigger. You can select Tuned Stack mode to create melodic bass drum hits triggering different notes depending on your MIDI input. This mode will also allow you to send out discrete MIDI notes for polyrhythmic programming.
Onboard you will find a total of 39 different drum sounds to experiment with. 31 samples have been carried over from the world-famed Punch module as well as four exciting synthesis models and four classic electronic bass drum samples from vintage drum machines. This doesn't mean you're limited to what's included. Load in your own samples to start with a familiar foundation to your sound that you can build on top of using the other five layers.

Offering an even more streamlined and intuitive range of control, Rob Papen Punch-BD also includes an Easy Panel window. This panel comprises a range of global controls to easily adjust key parameters of your sound design including synth and sample pitch and decay as well as envelope and LFO amounts and effects mixes. These global controls dictate all six layers simultaneously, letting you drastically alter the sound of your entire drum on the fly.
Not satisfied with providing you with the most comprehensive bass drum creation tool, Rob Papen has gone above and beyond by including a tremendous range of creative effects and modulation within Punch-BD. Spanning everything from stereo and mono delays, filters, reverb, chorus, 19 distortion types, gator, ring modulation, auto-wah, tape delay and much more, you can take your sound design to the next level with Punch-BD. In total, four FX can be loaded into the four FX slots and be set to run in either series or parallel, offering flexible signal routing, drastically altering the response of each effect in your chain. Despite the dizzying levels of effects, this barely scratches the surface of what's possible with Punch-BD. Each layer can have one of the fourteen unique distortion modes applied, along with an independent three-band EQ per layer.
Similarly impressive, Punch-BD offers a versatile range of modulation possibilities. Two freely assignable envelopes, two sync-able LFOs and a modulation matrix with eight slots offer you the ability to inject unpredictability into your sound, helping to stand above the noise and get your music heard.
